I’m an artist living in London. My fundamental activity is with fine art mosaics but of course my life informs my art and as such there has been a bit more to it. I’ve been involved with urban installation, filmwork, community projects, sometimes involving mosaic but sometimes not. There are undoubtedly recurrent themes to my work and these are caused by my innate instincts and interests, or in other words what I love and am fascinated by. For instance I am intrigued by nature and how small we humans and our concerns are in comparison to it. This is also about the microcosm within the macrocosm or how small things are echoed and repeated within the larger picture. This is another pre-occupation of mine, how small things build to a larger whole and I’m fascinated by working out what’s involved in that process. Whether I’m making a film, a mosaic or an installation I love putting small things together like a puzzle to create the whole. These could be mosaic tiles, photographic or video images, memorabilia of people’s lives, film footage etc. Perhaps my most monumental example of this is THE GLOW PROJECT which I hope and think will explain this in glorious technicolour! Ultimately, I think I just have a mind that really enjoys putting things together and orchestrating them into unity. This is the chief aspect of me at work every time I begin a mosaic. Lastly, I know that if I don’t create my vision, no one else will.
